A teacher from Tennessee was added to that state’s “Top 10 Most Wanted” list after being charged with aggravated kidnapping in the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl. Cummins also is charged with sexual misconduct with minor.
Authorities claim that Tad Cummins, 50, kidnapped Elizabeth Thomas, a freshman in the high school where Cummins taught until this week. The same authorities believe that the girl is in imminent risk, they said. Cummins wife made an emotional plea Friday for her husband to turn himself in.
Standing near her pastor, Ms. Cummins spoke directly to her husband in front of television cameras after an Amber Alert was issued for Elizabeth Thomas: “Tad, that is not you. That is not who you’re,” Jill Cummins said. “Please do the right thing and turn yourself in to law enforcement and bring Beth house. We might help you get through this. No matter how far you have gone or what is occurring right now, God’s grace is sufficient for you and he would like one to come home.”
Elizabeth Thomas was dropped off by a friend on Monday at a restaurant in Columbia, Tennessee. The restaurant is located near the high school, law enforcement authorities said. Around the exact same time, a surveillance camera recorded Cummins getting gas in a service station that was nearby, authorities said. TBI officials believe he may be hiding out in a secluded area or has left the state altogether.
Authorities are attempting to ascertain how much cash he may have in his possession. Cummins apparently received a $4,500 loan a few before he vanished, authorities say.
Cummins, who taught school in Culleoka, Tennessee, was fired earlier in the week, the TBI said. His dismissal came after authorities had issued a warrant for his arrest on the sexual misconduct charge. His charge was based on an “alleged interaction” with a teenager, the TBI said. Cummins was not Thomas’ school teacher, and the precise history of their relationship is still unknown, TBI Private Investigative Officer Josh Devine said.
Cummins was suspended from teaching job for more than a month for alleged sexual contact with a minor and inappropriate contact having a student, according to Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland. The sheriff did not say exactly when the earlier suspension occurred.
Cummins is 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He is physically described as a white man with brown hair and brown eyes. He believed to be driving a 2015 silver Nissan Rogue with a Tennessee license plate number 976-ZPT. A reward has been offered for information that might result in Cummins’ arrest.
“This is a 15-year-old child which has led a difficult life, essentially going against a 50-year-old guy. I consider it is clear at this point that her removal by him is unlawful”.
